A day on Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano. We begin on the southern slopes, rising above the forests by cable car before continuing by 4×4 across the lava fields toward the summit zone. From there we hike with a local volcanological guide among Etna’s dramatic craters.
After descending from the high slopes, the day slows in the vineyards that grow in Etna’s volcanic soil. At a small winery on the mountain’s flank we’ll sit down to a long Sicilian lunch, tasting local dishes and wines produced on the volcano itself.
