Northern Sardinia is home to Gallura, a landscape of wind-shaped granite hills, wild Mediterranean scrub, and vineyards that produce the island’s most celebrated white wine: Vermentino di Gallura DOCG. This small corner of Sardinia is the only region on the island with a DOCG wine designation, Italy’s highest classification, and its wines are shaped by the distinctive terroir of granite soils, sea breezes, and bright Mediterranean sun.
Our day will begin on the northeastern coast near Olbia, and from there we’ll travel inland through rolling hills dotted with cork oak forests and vineyards stretching across pale granite slopes.
At a local estate, Tenute Olbios, we’ll explore the vineyards and cellar to learn how Vermentino is grown and produced. In Gallura, the vines thrive in sandy soils formed from weathered granite, with constant winds from the nearby sea helping create wines known for their minerality.
After the cellar tour, we’ll settle in for a guided tasting of several Vermentino wines, each expressing a different side of the region’s terroir. The tasting will be paired with traditional Sardinian dishes: local cheeses, cured meats, handmade pasta, and seasonal specialties that reflect the island’s deeply rooted food culture.
